I hope you are all having a good start to your week! I can't believe Mother's Day has already come and gone...soon it will be summertime! The kids have to go longer this year due to all of the snow days. Awww...too bad, but a few more quiet days for me! lol...
Chase's room is a room I've been putting off for a while. He will be turning 12 in July and this room has been the same since we moved in here, except for the pictures above the bed, I did change those a few years ago. I am glad I picked the plaid bedding when we moved in here because he has been able to grow with it since it doesn't have a theme. However, it's starting to unravel and the bed skirt has never fit well. To sum it all up...it's time for a big boy (tween) room!
I am trying EVERYTHING to keep these green walls. The main reason is I simply don't want to paint! I'll just say it how it is...call me lazy! hehe. I really still like this color, not just saying that to get out of painting. ;) Another thing is the ceiling is painted too! Even a bigger job! Whew! I will be keeping the ladder and nightstand, but will be buying a full size bed. He has always complained about his bed being too small. This bed is for sale if you live close!
I think Chase has decided to go with a music theme in here. I was thinking about doing records on the wall and he liked that idea...I've seen that done before and it looks really neat. Now, what about bedding? I am hoping to find a pillow or two with a music theme. Let me know your thoughts....
These next two pictures are pretty junky! lol...This is a great shelf and I definitely want to keep it in here too...it sure does need to be cleaned up though! I think I've set stuff up there just to get it off the floor!
I painted this desk when we first moved in here. The paint is chipping and it's WAY to small as you can see. I am going to look for a desk with a hutch to house his computer, t.v., games and stuff. What a mess!!! It's definitely time to get this room picked up and organized!! We are also going through his closet soon, it's really bad too... :O
Now this is the room Chase would love to have!
This room is "Cool". I could picture something like this with the green walls. Hmmm...
Here is a music themed room. Hmmm...I like it too.
So what do you think? Are you going to make me paint or do you think I can make it work with those green walls? lol...Any ideas would be very helpful!

I see no reason that the music theme would not work with the green of the room. And the curtains shown could be dome with green rather than the red or burgandy. The material in that print is available at JoAnns. And those would be so easy to make. I love the idea of records on the walls. Would look nice I think.
Will look forward to seeing the room completed.
I think you could make it work with the green, Kristen. I'd check out bedding {maybe Target or JC Penney online} just to see what's out there and maybe they will have some inspiration. The music theme is a great idea and I know I've seen fabric with music notes and stuff.
Hi Kristen,
Yes, I think you can make the green walls work. Whatever you decide on for the room, just coordinate it to match the green walls. How exciting for Chase. I just did 4 girl's rooms with all new themes and it was fun and they love their new rooms. I can't wait to see how it turns out. Good luck! XOXO ~Liz
I sorely need to redo my 15 year old son's room as well. He loves music and I've seen a lot of music themed stuff, wall hangings, etc at Kirklands recently. I'd love to know the source of the blue bedroom with the loft. Is it Pottery Barn? Good luck and keep us informed ast to the change. I can't wait to see what you do.
I think the green will work fine for a music themed room. Does he have a guitar? You can find brackets to mount them on the wall.
I find boys rooms are so much harder (at least for me) to decorate than a girls room.
I look forward to seeing what you do. It will be great I'm sure!
have a great day~L
I definitely think you can keep the green walls, I like them too, and the decals on that last picture look pretty cool, you could add something like that. You could still go with 'neutral' bedding and just add pillows with music notes on or piano keys. If you can't find any, look for fabric and sew some?
Found this link for you, scroll down to see the 'guys' bedding

That sounds great Kristen!
Painting is a pain but as you know creates the biggest *change*. I say let hiim pick the color and go for it. A music theme sounds really neat!
You are so creative and a great decorator, so I'm sure that you could definitely make the green walls work! I like the music theme too...cool idea!
I recently saw a lot of music themed decor at Kirklands. I also have a son turning 12 in July! I think a music theme would be fun. I love the green color and don't think you need to change it. Good luck!
I think you could make the green work. I would just coordinate your bedding with the walls. Chase is a lucky boy!
I say don't stress over the green. If you prefer not to paint, then hire someone to do it. They're in and out like a flash and all is well! :-) It's so worth NOT having the anguish of painting yourself.
Chase could choose the color...and the colors to add in. Find musical instruments, real or not, and hang on the wall. See if you can find one of those music stand thingys and he could put music or books or whatever on it. Starting over with a new color is much easier to coordinate bedding and window treatments as well as Chase having a whole new look.
Just my 2cents! :-)

does Chase want the green. I am just saying it would be a shame to do all that work and then in a year he says he doesn't want the green walls anymore
I have always thought of green as a neutral color so I think it will work well with another theme. I am loving the music idea. I am also loving the large decals on the last pic of the bedroom you posted. If you have a Kirklands out there they have a lot of music stuff for the walls...( At least they did.) I haven't been there in awhile.
Good luck and have fun! I am sure it will turn out great.
xoxo Cathy
Hello, I was looking at the pictures in your post, and I think if Chase would want a "cool" room, the green would work. If you haven't heard of IKEA, it's probably your best place to get "cool" beds and desks and shelves. The prices are extremely reasonable! Especially the quality will last throughout his "Tween" years! They even have lighting and accessories! Well I wait to see what the room turns out to look like!
Oh, this great! You are finally taken the plunge and redoing Chase's room!! He must be ecstatic!!! I think you make the green walls work. Maybe you could fresh it up a bit with a horizontal stripe or even some boxed out molding with the insides painted another color???? Just a few ideas. Can't wait to see the progress.
In the guitar room, are the figures/drum set peel offs are did you have that painted?? I'm interested in something like this for my son's room.
