Hey everyone! Welcome to Met Monday hosted by our gracious Susan at Between Naps on the Porch . Please pay her a visit for a list of all the participants. Today I am showing you a desk and hutch I bought at a flea market a few months ago. I have needed this for a long time for making my crafts, the kitchen table just wasn't working anymore! I have an extra bedroom with a piano so decided to squeeze this desk in there and make it a hobby/music room. As you can see it's nice but a little too country and not the right colors. I decided green would be the best color and would look good against the gold walls and go with the rest of the room. So off to Michael's I went! I bought fern green patio paint, it's an indoor/outdoor paint. I've never used it before, but it said it worked on wood and it went on really well without even sanding. I ended up putting two coats on and used antique gold rub n buff to add a little bit of an antique look. After it was all done, I sprayed it with a low shine clear sealer. Oh...and the chair you see was my neighbor's. They were throwing it out, so I picked it up! It will be recovered in a gold chenille fabric. I also found some cute plaid fabric for a pillow.

As you can see I covered the hearts with a round decorative piece of wood from Michael's. They worked perfectly! I also purchased new hardware from Lowe's. Nothing fancy...I was kind of in a hurry picking it out, hubby was waiting...lol. Click to enlarge.
In these pictures you can see the gold highlights. I rubbed a little on the hardware too.I also had a piece of glass cut for the top because of using a glue gun.
This was hubby's idea. I bought curtain rod holders and wooden dowels. It holds my ribbon perfectly, but this is not even half of what I have! I can't stop buying ribbon!! I would show you the rest, but unfortunatly I am very messy when it comes to creating!
Since it's getting close to Halloween I wanted to show you this arrangement I created for a lady last week. I thought it might give you an idea. Halloween will be here before we know it...I need to go buy candy! We have about 200 trick-or-treaters...that's alot of candy. I have to budget for it!

I adore the pretty apple green color against you walls. The fact that you designed it to hold all of your ribbons is even better! I know what you mean about buying ribbon. I can't go into Michaels now with out looking at all the different ribbon styles. I learned that from you and your inspiring frames and crations. He! :)

Kristen, that looks great! I love the wood pieces you used to hide the hearts ~ it really adds to the piece. Love the color and great idea to get the glass done for the top. Your ribbons look so pretty!
How gorgeous that desk came out Kristen - I'm going to try my hand soon at re-doing some furniture that I picked up at the Flea Market for my new house. It won't be long now. That color green is so perfect for you and how clever to cover those hearts with the wood cutouts.

That is an amazing transformation, so cute. I love that you now have a place to keep your ribbon. (I thought I was the only one with a ribbon obsession. I couldn't show a picture of my ribbon either. My theory is that you can't be creative and tidy at the same time. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it.)
Love the arrangemet..and you look like me....if I had a dollar for every roll of ribbone I have I would be quite wealthy....I have more ribbon than I have ever had and I love it....

What a great and timely redo! I have a nice large shelf with a country heart cut out taking up space in the closet. I've been wondering how to redo it to make it usable again. This is perfect!

I should have a place for a dowel or two also, I just seem to buy more ribbon everytime I go somewhere. Your arrangement you did for a friend is beautiful. You really always do such a beautiful job. I have posted my MM with my version of the rooster centerpiece. I didn't have any kind of container big enough so I used a tray. I really like mine, but I am just in LOVE with your.
