The Kitchen Is Done...For Now..

The kitchen is done!! For now...if your like me your house is always a work in progress. However, as far as major stuff goes I am done in here. Later on in a year or two I will get new counter tops, but right now I am satisfied with everything. If you have been following my kitchen updates then you will know the first thing we did was get new stainless steel appliances. Next, I reglazed the cabinets to darken them and add more character...then I added the new hardware. Next, I tackled the island and painted and distressed it in green. What you haven't seen is the newly painted light fixtures, new curtain, and rugs. I am doing this backwards...this is the after pic.
This is the before with the black appliances, lighter cabinets, and old hardware.

Here is the after with the new rugs, curtain, stainless steel appliances, painted light fixtures, and painted island. It feels so much more cozy and warm! This is the before...best picture I could find.

I am really loving the island! At first it looked like it was just floating in the room, however when I added the rugs and curtain it helped to ground it. I have looked for a rug ever since we moved in this house! Seriously! I needed a 7 round...nothing else would do! I was in The Home Depot the other day and spotted this one. I couldn't believe when I saw it said 7 round!! Oh the excitement!! I also had decided I needed something with black and tan because I have so many colors going on in here. It is an indoor/outdoor rug made by Martha Stewart.

I painted the light fixtures brown and then went over them with metallic gold. Your not going to believe this, but I didn't even take them down!! I just laid down newspapers and spray painted them! I did use a brush to paint the top. I know I'm crazy! Hubby was afraid to take them down, so I had to do what I had to do! lol...
This is a no sew curtain. Everything is hot glued!! lol...I left the coral material underneath...it is gathered and hanging from clips. It had beaded fringe on it, but I took it off added the ball fringe. I wanted to add more green to tie in the island so I added the green fringe above the ball fringe. All done with hot glue! Then I found the black fabric and draped it over and tied it to the middle. I knotted the ends, added the tassel and hot glued the edges of the black fabric. This is one rigged curtain!! LOL!
Isn't that fringe pretty? The black fabric and all of the fringe came from Hobby Lobby. Love that store!
This is a no sew roller shade. I have had it on my door since we moved in and was going to change it because it was coming apart. However, I decided to just re glue it and add matching fringe. I was actually going to go with a bamboo shade, but didn't want the long string hanging down.

This is the view from the laundry room.

Thanks for checking out my kitchen!! I'm sure glad all of that painting and glazing is done! Whew! Do you see my little bird oil paintings? I need to do a post on birds soon. I am drawn to them and have them all over my house! lol...They make me think of spring! I hope it's warming up where you are. It's supposed to be 80 here tomorrow! Yay!! I am ready to work outside. I bought some beautiful yellow flower hanging baskets today. Oh, and you might remember I had pillows made for the patios in that pretty striped fabric...well they are beautiful and BRIGHT!! I don't know how well hubby likes them around his manly fire pit...lol. They look like little rainbows! hehehe! He will just have to get used to them! Have a wonderful weekend!!

I am joining Carrie at Dittle Dattle for Amaze Me Monday and Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Met Monday.

It looks beautiful, Kristen! I'd probably be in it just looking around; forget cooking! : ) Love the rug, what a great find and I love the colors and pattern. Very clever with your window treatments. If you ever get the time, I'd love to know how to do the shade.

How did you make that roller shade on your door it (I am not a fan of the bamboo shades, I like them in a bathromm or sunroom) ties in so nicely !!!
