First thing first...the winner of the spring giveaway by random generator #20... is Donna~One Simple Country Girl!! Congrats!! I'll be contacting you for your address. I wish I could give you all something. Thank you for all of your sweet comments and entering my giveaway...I will have another one in a few months.
I hope you are all having a wonderful week!! I am just getting over my soreness from painting and distressing this island!! No kidding! It took me FOREVER! I guess I'm really out of shape and not used to all of the bending and stooping. Anyway, I am really lovin how it turned out! It was all by trial and error...believe me! Before the glaze and sanding I was beginning to regret the whole green thing...but after a day and a half of messing with it I am finally happy with it. I hope you all like it because it is staying how it is...lol! I have also done a few other things in here this week that I will be showing you soon. It's all coming together...yay!!
I lightly sanded the whole island then painted almost three coats of the misted fern green. After it was dry I glazed it with the stain I used on the cabinets. (If you would like to see my tutorial on glazing cabinets please click here.) Then I took a darker green I had in the garage and brushed a little on here and there. After I saw there was still something not right I sanded around the edges and a little on the drawers and cabinets to let some of the cream show through. That really helped to tie in the cabinets. Before it looked like a giant green thumb in the middle of the room!! lol...
Here is a closeup... I'm still lovin the new hardware! Click to enlarge to see the detail.
This is the other side...love the black stools against the green.
I will be doing a before and after post on the whole kitchen next week! I have more beautiful mesh wreaths to show on Thurs. You guys really have some great ideas!! Have a great rest of the week!

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! I just squealed out loud and peed my pants a little!! I cannot believe I am the lucky winner of your awesome giveaway! My son just ran out of his room to see if I was o.k. when he heard me squeal and the dog is eyeing me rather strangely!! I have been drooling over your frames for quite some time and I am super excited to be the owner of one of them now! Woohoo ~ you have certainly made my day! I will get you my mailing info right away.
Love the green island! We are getting ready to do something to our kitchen cabinets but I am having such a hard time trying to decide if I want to paint, stain, glaze, or just rip them all out and be cabinetless!
Hope you have a great day!
Hugs,
Donna

Hi Kristen,
Wow, You have really been working, Girl. The cabinets look fantastic. I thought about painting my island but wasn't sure if I'd like the contrast. Yours looks great. You did a great job.
I may try black on mine. We'll see??
Wow Kristen - that turned out awesome! I love the shade of green. It goes perfectly in your kitchen.
xoxo,
Kim
Beautiful!! Looks perfect ~ I know you're going to enjoy the entire kitchen now.
Kristen it is gorgeous! It really compliments your kitchen and gives a little *pop* of color. I hope you found the rugs nd curtain fabric you wanted.
Congrats to the lucky winner! Donna is really nice. I know she is so happy. :)
Turned out great!! Nice thing about paint is that it's so forgiving :) just paint over mistakes. I glazed the white cabinets in one of our homes and although there were a few nicks, the new owners loved it as much as I did. The house sold in less than two weeks :) Thanks for sharing with everyone that if you want to do, do it. Just try it! It's only paint :)
Wow! You did an awesome job! I can't imagine how sore you be. It really looks as if it was done by a professional. You did an amazing job. Now you sit back and just enjoy ...until the next project!
Kristen, I love the color of your island. Thanks for sharing this at WUW.
Great, great job, Kristen !! Love it. The green is perfect for your kitchen. Your hard work paid off, friend. Enjoy! *Becca*
