Every Man Needs A Recliner...Or Two.

Hey Guys! I hope you are having a great start to your week! I want to show you what I've been working on the past several days, or I guess I should say months. I don't think I've mentioned this room much here on my blog. I don't have a good before picture, but it was pretty blah. It was time to rearrange it and make it more of a family/movie room. My one stipulation was to keep it MANLY!
Kevin has always wanted his own recliner...don't all men? We really didn't think we could fit one in this room let alone two! We thought and thought and finally figured it out...we had to get rid of the big stuff like the huge t.v. and over sized desk that was in here to be able to fit everything we wanted in this 14x14 space. That is a speaker in the corner in case you are wondering. When we built the house Kevin wired this room for surround sound. It's great for watching movies! (click to enlarge all pics) I'm not crazy about recliners, but these look pretty good and are VERY comfy...not to mention a great price!! They are by Lane and the style is Eureka if you are interested. I was on a mission to find pillows, lamps, a desk chair, and a rug last week. After hours of looking and taking several things back...I am finally happy with my purchases.
The pillows and table are from Kirkland's. I loved Melissa's little table she put in her bedroom so I bought one similar. I found the lamp base at Lowe's...I had the shade and added the fringe today, it really dressed it up!

We purchased the sofa last year at Ashley and I added the new pillows this week. I took several back, but ended up with these... I brought one of the zebra pillows in here from the living room. It really made the sofa pop!
I bought the little leather ottomans at TJ Maxx last year and added the bowl with balls today.
Here is a closeup of the pillows, they came from Wal-mart, Kohl's and Dillard's. I shop everywhere!
Here is my new leopard print desk chair from Pier 1 Imports...I just love it!! Hubby didn't really approve, but hey! he got his recliners... Ok, mine is the one on the right,lol...

We purchased the desk at Wal-Mart. It was the perfect size and color, it has a distressed look to it that looks really neat. Wal-Mart has some great stuff at reasonable prices! The lamp came from Kirkland's and I already had the palm tree pictures.

I found this candle holder today at Hobby Lobby 80% off! It was just 4.98!

Here is our biggest purchase besides the chairs... It took FOREVER to find a rug!! I brought home two before this one and they were too small. I ended up getting an 8x10 and absolutely love it! The colors are just perfect! I found it at a local interior store I had never been in before. Mom and I just happen to pass it on the way to another store. I'm so glad we stopped in there, not only did I find a rug, but I am going to work for them tomorrow! They are doing a big home show and needed some help with some floral designs. A lady who I used to work with happened to be in there and recommended me. I didn't expect that! lol...And the new flat screen t.v....this is something else hubby has been wanting for a while. It doesn't take up nearly as much room as the other one. The console is from Wal-Mart...again, they are really improving their stuff! The iron scroll and trunks are from Hobby Lobby, and the large vase is from Pier 1 Imports. That's hubby's bookcase, or game case...he needs to organize it!
Here is the room again...finally finished and we are both happy. I am really liking the comfy cozy feel in here. If we weren't broke we could relax! lol...we've been saving for this room for a while.
Now that I am done in here I can work on my Etsy store... I know there is not much left! Thank you for your purchases!! After tomorrow I will be making several new items. This room has had most of my attention lately! Thank you for stopping by...have a great week!!

  5. I understand what you mean about recliners. My husband picked out a chair & ottoman because I really didn't want another recliner in our new home and we have had nothing but trouble with the chair. It is a poorly made chair and it was expensive. I had to actually send it back to the England Furniture Company. And in the end, we are getting another recliner:) I think you did a good job working the chairs in and the room turned out great. It all looks very comfortable.

  6. Kristen, no surprise that I LOVE this room !! I can only imagine how happy your hubby is to have his "man cave" completed !! My poor hubby, I moved his twin recliners to our bedroom because, well, I decided the color just didn't work in our great room anymore. I truly feel sorry for fellas who are married to OCD decorators !! I love your pillows and your desk and console ... perfection !! Hugs, Becca

  8. Love what you've done to the room! Not big on recliners either, and so far the hubs hasn't even wanted one. But a flat screen t.v. now that might be something he has in plan. We will see! Thanks for sharing and letting us know all the great places you shop!

  9. I would love a recliner but can't find a comfy one for my short stature. They are padded in all the wrong places and I also can't get out of them. Of course I can think of worse places to be stuck. Bring me a snack please...I can't get out.

  10. It is just perfect! I love everything you did in there, even the recliners!!! lol Seriously, what is it with men and recliners?!? My hubby has one, too, but it is sooo ugly! Maybe I can convince him to get one like yours!?! :-)

  11. YOUR ROOM LOOKS AWESOME. We are in thr process of redoing our family room. I'm not too sure on the recliners, just like you. Thought maybe an oversize chair that swivels. Like the idea of a rug over the carpet. Easier to keep clean.

  12. I love it! I think you should invite me over and watch a few girly movies: "The Family Stone" "pretty in pink" "The Notebook" , what do you think? I'll bring the popcorn! LOL
    It's absolutely stunning.

  13. It all looks great, Kristen! Wonderful how that worked out with the rug ~ I guess you were meant to be in that store for more than just the rug, too! Love your desk chair. I just got myself a new one from Target and I love mine, too. I'm waiting for Pier 1 to have a real clearance sale on some of their chairs, as I have my eye on one for my living room.

  21. Hey there! It was worth the time you spent because this room turned out beautifully! Yes, I know what you mean about recliners, but we have 2 red leather ones too. They are comfy for watching tv. I love the rug and your table and all the other accessories. OH! How could I forget that darling leopard chair! Love it! Thanks for the peek!

  22. Kristen, your room looks great! Every man needs a recliner and I hate to admit it but ours are much more comfortable than any other furniture in the house! We have the large chair and ottoman in our living room and it doesn't compare with the comfort of the recliners we have in our family room. A house is for living in and why not make it as comfortable for everyone as possible? You certainly didn't sacrifice any style at all when you decorated with these recliners and I'm sure your husband is very happy.

LOVE the new leather recliners and the rug and the wall color, drapes and the pretty pillows. The large topper is fantastic above the new tv! It may be the prettiest topper I have even seen. LOVE it! The new little table is perfect in the spot. The lamp is awesome with the fringe. Oh I just adore this lovely room. I could go on and on. LOL!

    ~Enjoy it!!! ~Melissa :)

  28. Wow what a great room! I love how it's been Kristenified, but is still masculine at the same time. How great that you found work while shopping! You are so talented, I'm not surprised. Have you ever thought of listing some of your floral designs on Etsy? They are magnificent. I know it would be kinda hard to ship, but you would probably still sell alot.
    Just a thought!

  36. I have question for you. Your sofa looks lovely with all the pillows. however what do you do with them all when you want to sit on it? I use my couch daily and the few pillows I have always get tossed to the side, or thrown on the floor....and I always feel so uncomfortable when I go to someones house and see tons of pillows on their couch = to me it screams "DON'T SIT HERE"...so just wondering about your thoughts on all of this!
