Accessorized Bookcases

Happy Saturday! I hope you are all having a wonderful day today! It sure is warm here in Arkansas. I'm going to get outside in a little while and do some yard work. There is always something to do at this time of the year.

I have been meaning to show you my bookcases since I reworked them. Actually, they are always a work in progress. As you can see I have quite a few to play with. When we built the house the bookcases were an upgrade..of course! However, it was an upgrade I just had to have.

As you can see I use a little bit of everything in my bookcases. I try to create interest with different shapes, color, textures and movement.

One thing I learned in a decorating class was to create different levels to add interest and movement. This could be done when doing a vignette on a table or mantle too. When everything is the same level it is not as interesting.

I am really into butterflies lately. I found two of the metal butterfly pictures in Dallas and love them. I also added a touch of blue with the ceramic jar I found at Hobby Lobby.

I found this painting at an antique mall the other day for $20! It says hand painted by Robert Grace on the back. Even if it's a print it was worth it...I love it!
The mirrored birdcage is one of my favorite accessories. There is another touch of the blue in the pot.

Here is the "B" I painted that I showed you the other day. I found the glass ball (bubble)with sand and shells at T.J. Maxx. Isn't it cool? It kind of reminds me of a snow globe.

The tray in the back used to be a table before it got knocked over by Sugar the fat cat! I almost threw it away , but then it hit me to take the legs off and make it into a tray.

I guess I will leave these bookcases alone for a little while...it's always fun changing them up. Although, one change calls for another!

Have a great day!

  11. HI Kristen! Your bookshelves looks gorgeous! I have a similar arrangement on either side of my fireplace but one set has glass doors. I think it was a gun cabinet for the folks who lived here before. Anyway, bookshelves are so hard for me to do. I just keep poking things in them! I need you to come on over and help me! ;)
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  12. LOVE your bookcases, Kristen! You did a wonderful job of accessorizing them. Your bookcases look similar in size to my big ole bookcase/entertainment center and your post has given me the inspiration that I need to paint them and get rid of the huge brown blob!

  20. This post is very helpful. I get bored with my bookcases at least twice a year so now I have something to refer to. Yours are beautiful ...not too crowded and busy...just right.
I love the Robert Grace painting. It's a real treasure.

  23. You have a lovely home, but as a life long bibliophile, I am always disturbed by bookcases without BOOKS! My mother, also, fills the bookcases with everything else, but I just don't get it.
