Our Newest Project~~~A Raised Garden!

Hey guys! I wanted to show you our latest project! It's going to be a raised garden. We wanted to do a raised garden last year, but after building the patio hubby was too tired and we had gone over budget, so we decided to wait until this spring. We love home grown tomatoes, so that will be our main veggie. We are planning to plant bell peppers, squash, okra, and maybe more or less because of spacing. We will have to see what we can fit. It will measure 16x4...I thought 4 ft. was way too small but hubby read up on it and they are usually made that way so you can reach into it from one side. Hmmm...I didn't think of that! It's going to be built on one side of the hill, so hubby will have to level everything...he says he knows what he's doing! We will see! lol...Here is the start of it, lots of digging!

Here are some examples of raised gardens....

Sorry this picture is so darn small! I think this is what ours is going to look like. We are using landscaping timbers so it will look nice.

While hubby has been digging, I've been planting...
And mulching...our trees are really growing!

I've also been buying a few new things for the patio. I love these copper tiki torches. They look alot nicer and will last longer than the other ones we had. I will show you the patio soon...I'm waiting on a few pillows I ordered.
Thanks for stopping by! I'll be updating pictures of the garden as it comes along. We are hoping to finish it this weekend if the rain holds off! Let me know if you have a raised garden...I would love some gardening tips!

  1. Kristen, you'll be loving those fresh veggies. The size idea is pretty great, I think. We have a small garden on wheels in the works.

  2. Kristen, YOu have been a hard worker! Your planter looks like summer to me! And I love raised beds. We have 6 raised beds. We used to use then to plant veggies, but now I use them for flowers. Our veggie patch is a little bigger. Raised beds work great to and are so easy to weed! Please post the finished project.
Just think how much fun it will be to pick all those homegrown veggies!

  5. Raised gardens are great. I always recommend the book Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew for people who are doing one. Great advice and real time savers in it.

  6. Hi Kristen,
We talked about doing one this year but with different levels. I don't if we will accomplish it or not. Time will tell. We've been busy painting all our patio furniture.
Having fresh veggies will taste heavenly.

  8. Raised beds are great, you need to stop by my garden blog (the link is on the right hand side on my main blog) our veggie garden is already under way this year :-) I'm trying to update the garden blog on a weekly basis so I can see how things are growing, when you see it every day you don't think there's much difference!

  10. Hi Kristen! Love your raised garden! You'll love your fresh veggies and you won't have to stoop so low to gather them. Course you're young and can get up when you're on your knees! :)

  12. That is going to be so neat to grow your own veggies! I have always wanted to try that. Maybe I could just start small, like a pot or two of something. Hmmmmm, now I am thinking...

  13. Kristen, we had planned on doing a garden this year but the basement project and our daughter having an herniaed dish we ditched the idea until next year. I can learn the ups and downs from you. Good luck.

  17. Great project. It will be so nice to have fresh veggies. I tried to talk my husband into a raised garden this year, but he thought it would be better if I started in a small container on the patio :)

  20. It would also be hard to accomplish tasks at camp when no light is available. The higher the number, and the batteries work effectively without needing a charge. You may be not going on some tour and you may not be the frequent traveller or someone who is really in need of the led flashlight rechargeable but it would be good option and preparedness if you can have the led flashlight rechargeable for your personal use handy all the time who knows when and where you may require it urgently. 1 x Shaving conditioner refill can: 75 ml
