The Raised Garden Is Done! ~Come And See~

Yay! It's done!! We are so excited about our little garden. It turned out great considering it's built on a hill...I was having some doubt, but hubby was right, he knew what he was doing! We planted tomatoes, okra, squash, zucchini, hot peppers, and bell peppers. We left space for some broccoli, but we haven't found any yet. Broccoli is Chase's favorite veggie!
Hubby found a program online called growveg.com that let's you plan out your garden according to the square footage. It really helped to know how many plants you can fit and how far apart to space each one. Here is when we started...
Hubby placed the first boards and lined the sides with plastic to prevent wood rot and hold in the moisture.
He did most of the work, and he said measuring and digging was the hardest part. After that is was just a matter of nailing all of the landscaping boards together.
when it was all done, he reloaded most of the dirt and mixed it with a truckload of compost. We also bought Miracle Grow Shake n Feed and mixed it in. After it was all done, it needed a little something to dress it up...wooden finials! Yes, even a garden needs to be decorated a little!!lol

Now we can enjoy fresh veggies all summer long! I will be updating pictures when everything starts to grow. The cost of this garden was about $140. That included the wood, nails, finials, compost and plants...everything. Not bad! Oh...and it measures 4x16.

Thanks for your visit!! Have a great weekend!

How exciting! Your bed looks nice. We need to get moving, but had snow again this week.... :o(
I don't suppose you would share your hubby's online program. I looked around and didn't find anything exciting. We have raised beds for the first time also. Funny, one of my daughters will only eat broccoli raw, and doesn't really care for other veggies. PS I just love my little bird flower arrangement I received last week. It makes me smile when I walk past it! Thank you!

Looks great. That was a lot of work to dig into the slope of your yard. The pics should motivate me. I hope you have a bountiful summer. I also hope those tornados missed your area.

Your whole family will benefit from this great project and you should be able to grow food almost year round. I've always wanted some raised beds, but I just have a regular garden plot now. My goal this weekend is to work on it!

Broccoli is planted in early spring, that's probably why you couldn't find plants. You can plant it again in the fall.

This looks great. I can't wait to see all the yummy veggies you get out of it this summer. Happy gardening!

Wow, that's a very fancy bed, I love it. Wish mine looked like that. I love the finials at each corner. Have you looked at square foot gardening? That also tells you how to space the plants out, we use it as a guide even though our beds aren't square right now! :-)

Looks great Kristen! I love the finials. It added a lot to it. Now that you've got all the hard work done it will be there year after year and all you'll have to do is plant :)
Have a great weekend.

What a great project that will provide great dividends. I love fresh veggies and should start garden like yours. The tomoatoes that you grow yourself are so different from the ones in the store.--Unless you're in FL. When I'm at my Mom's house they are so much better down there.
I will have tomato plants but that may be all. I've been killing my poor hubby with other projects (lo) and company is about to descend on us for a week.
Enjoy your weekend!

Hey Kristen!
I hope all is well with you! I see most of Arkansas had some really scary weather yesterday. I think it's right by your town isn't it? Let me know if you are doing okay.

The veggie garden is really neat! Love the pretty finials. It looks good on the hill.

That looks like the perfect size for a garden. It won't be long before you'll be enjoying a fresh salad from your garden.

How fun! This house is our first without enough yard to have a garden. The yard we have is all landscaped and we simply don't have anyplace to "tuck" a garden area that wouldn't ruin the look of the entire thing. We do peppers and tomatoes in pots, along with fresh herbs...but, I miss my fresh veggies. You will love this!

It looks amazing! How exciting. I tried the whole garden thing but even though we did grow some stuff (cabbage, Tomatoes, etc) they got a bunch of insects...and the nice little bunnies decided to finish it off...good luck with yours!
